Flower and Bird Chinese Scroll Painting – Silk Wall Art – Iris Bee

Here a flower-and-bird scene take center stage in a traditional wall scroll, made for close, quiet looking. Painters spent centuries on this theme and never exhausted it; this scroll shows why. Around the main subject, pheasant, peony and iris fill out the scene without crowding it.

The surface is silk at its best: smooth, unreflective, and flattering to every color. People who collect this genre will read the meaning at once — butterflies speak of joy, love and a light heart. It brings high summer along: blossoms fully open, greens at their deepest, days at their longest. It sits naturally in the vertical format; your eye travels down the silk the way the painter planned. Collectors often hang pieces like this where they can catch the morning light.

Keep the furniture simple and let this scroll do the talking. One nail in a quiet wall — the scroll's entire wish list. It is a fine example of pheasant and peony Chinese painting, the kind of piece that grows on you.
