Fish Chinese Scroll Painting – Silk Wall Art – Koi Lotus Colorful Gongbi

Unroll this scroll and fish gliding through clear water open up before you, painted the old way on silk. Generations of painters returned to the fish, and this scroll shows the tradition in good health. From a distance it's one image; up close it's koi, lotus and colorful gongbi, each worth a look on its own.

Lines are precise and delicate and washes even and luminous; it has the rhythm of brushwork done without hesitation. Like much classical Chinese art, it carries a wish inside the image — the lotus rises clean from muddy water, the classic emblem of purity. Expect lively, varied color throughout; the restraint is deliberate, and it works. High summer comes with it — full blossom, dense green, long days that seem to slow down. Hang it at eye level and it pulls viewers in gently, without taking over.

If you collect fish pieces, this one earns its place. For the person building their first Chinese art collection, this is a gift that lands well. It is a fine example of koi and lotus Chinese painting, the kind of piece that grows on you.
